Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will take charge upon Silverwood's departure following the conclusion of day two of the second Test
Head coach Chris Silverwood will exit England's tour of New Zealand ahead of schedule following a family bereavement.
The 44-year-old will depart following day two of the second and final Test against the Kiwis at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Assistant coach Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will take charge in his absence, working alongside captain Joe Root.
England trail 1-0 in the series at the end of a tour which is Silverwood's first in charge since being promoted from his role as bowling lead.
Silverwood has already guided England to a 3-2 T20 international series success over the Black Caps.
It offers an opportunity for Thorpe and Collingwood to prove themselves as the central figures in charge of the team.
Director of cricket Ashley Giles has hinted that Silverwood could be given a break from the rigorous schedule for the limited-overs series in India in 2020, which acts as a warm-up for the T20 World Cup.
