Increased crowds for Sri Lanka and Pakistan white-ball matches approved by UK government

England's third one-day international against Pakistan will be played in front of a near-capacity 19,000 crowd at Edgbaston after the match was added to the Government’s Events Research Programme.

Warwickshire's ground will operate at 80 per cent capacity for the day-night international on Tuesday, July 13 with no limits on social distancing or requirements regarding masks in the stadium bowl.

Ticketholders will be able to gain entry either with a negative Covid lateral flow test taken within 24 hours or proof of having had two vaccinations.

The Birmingham venue staged the second Test against New Zealand with 70 per crowds.

Chester-le-Street, The Kia Oval and Bristol is permitted to be half-full for the upcoming Sri Lanka ODIs on June 29, July 1 and July 4.

The government and the ECB confirmed last week that talks regarding increasing the crowds for the upcoming men's international white-ball matches were ongoing.

England v Sri Lanka ODIs: All you need to know

Currently, fans attending outdoor sports events are capped at 25 per cent or 10,000, whichever is smaller - unless part of the events research programme.

"It’s fantastic for sport in the West Midlands that so many cricket fans will be able to enjoy another blockbuster fixture in England versus Pakistan at Edgbaston," Warwickshire chief-executive Stuart Cain said.

"The recent Test match gave us a fantastic opportunity to build a new model for large scale sporting events and I’m pleased to see elements of this first trial being carried forward for the Pakistan match.

"Technology played a big part in this and we will again focus on using this as a way of creating a safe environment whilst enhancing Edgbaston’s reputation as one of the best atmospheres in world cricket."

The club again plans to encourage spectators to use a specifically designed app while at the venue, which acts as a mobile ticket, a queue time checker and provides the ability to order food and drink.
