Cook becomes highest-scoring left-hander in Test history

The England opener surpassed Kumar Sangakkara's haul of 12,400 runs to move into top spot, and fifth among all batsmen to have played the game

Alastair Cook has added another record to his glowing CV in the final innings of his Test career.

By knocking Mohammed Shami into the legside for a single to reach 76 on the fourth morning of the fifth Test against India, Cook became the highest-scoring left-hander in the history of the elite format.

The England opener surpassed Kumar Sangakkara's haul of 12,400 runs to move into top spot, and fifth among all batsmen to have played the game.

Only Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid have accumulated more runs in Tests.
