Joe Denly will miss the remainder of England's T20I series against New Zealand having picked up an injury in training on Thursday.

A scan showed that the allrounder has suffered ligament damage to his right ankle.

The Kent man twisted his ankle in training ahead of the first of the five-match series in Christchurch.

The injury was sustained as he went to take a catch in the deep during a practice session which subsequently ruled him out of England’s seven-wicket, series-opening victory.

England have stated that Denly will begin a programme of rehabilitation prior to being assessed ahead of the two-match Test series which begins on November 21.

Despite the 33-year-old’s absence, no immediate replacement has been called up to the squad.

England will be looking to take a 2-0 series lead when the two sides meet at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, starting at 1am GMT on Sunday.
