Who's got the form?

As news of England's historic Test series victory in Pakistan permeated the cricket world, it seemed that the sky was the limit for a world-conquering England team. Back in December, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes urged players to enjoy the moment, rather than use a continuation of their new-found success as preparation for the upcoming blockbuster summer of cricket.

This may be something they come to regret. As impressive as their performances in Pakistan may have been, securing a 3-0 victory on Pakistan soil, questions still linger over their form heading into their first Test of the Summer.

Their success on the dusty pitches of Pakistan will feel very foreign when they turn up to a luscious Lord's pitch in June. There's no indication of complacency, but it's worth noting that England's preparations have seen players spread far and wide across various tournaments and formats.

Ireland, on the other hand, have not enjoyed anything like the success of their English counterparts coming into this fixture.

The margin of their defeats versus Sri Lanka, by an innings in both matches, would appear to be a chastening blow for Ireland's hopes of victory at Lord's.

That being said, if ultimately unsuccessful, a spate of bright performances in their most recent Test appearances against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the very least offers hope that Ireland can be the David to England's Goliath.

What's the history?

The two teams have met once before in a Test match, in 2019. England won by 143 runs despite being bowled out for 85 in their first innings, as the Irish were toppled for 38 in their fourth-innings chase.

What is the weather forecast?

Conditions are set fair in north London across the week of the game, with temperatures hitting 21 degrees Celsius, and very little chance of rain. Good weather for cricket.

What are the odds?

England are firm favourites with the odds at 1/7 while the bookies see Ireland's victory as an extremely unlikey outcome with odds of as long as 22/1 in places. You can get 17/2 on the draw.
