England have always wrapped up the series victory after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the second Test at Lord's.
If they win at the Oval then England will complete the perfect Test summer after already whitewashing West Indies.
It is a great opportunity for Egland's stand-in captain Ollie Pope to prove doubters wrong after a quiet series with the bat as his home ground.
Sri Lanka have shown signs in both Test matches of their ability to complete but a lack of top-order runs has cost them so far.
Kamindu Mendis has looked the visitors' best batter on the tour after his maiden century in England in the first Test while Asitha Fernando tops the series wicket-takers list with 14.
England have handed a Test debut to 6ft 7in seamer Josh Hull at the Oval. The 20-year-old replaced Matthew Potts in England's XI as they continue to prepare for the Ashes.
Dan Lawrence will continue to open for England after two Tests of looking out of place at the top of the order while Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes are set to play their sixth consecutive Test of the summer.
For Sri Lanka, Nishan Madushka has endured a tough series with just 24 runs so far and was handed the burden of the wicketkeeping gloves in the second Test. It remains to be seen whether Dinesh Chandimal's thumb is recovered enough to take the gloves.
Fast bowler Lahiru Kumara justified his selection at Lord's with five wickets in the match so it likely to retain his place in the team.
