SIXERS LODGE COMPLAINT WITH BPL AFTER SEVEN-BALL OVER

Sylhet were narrowly defeated by Rangpur Riders in controversial circumstances

Sylhet Sixers have lodged a formal complaint with the Bangladesh Premier League after one of their bowlers was made to complete a seven-ball over.

The incident took place during the BPL clash with Rangpur Riders in Chittagong on Tuesday, with umpire Mahfuzur Rahman making seamer Kamrul Islam Rabbi bowl an extra delivery in the 16th over of the match despite being advised as to the situation by the bowler, a team-mate has suggested.

“Rabbi bowled an extra ball,” said Nabil Samad, Sylhet’s left-arm spinner, after the Sixers' four-wicket defeat, which came with two balls to spare.

“Rabbi reminded the umpire of the number of balls before bowling the extra delivery, but that did not change anything.

"I don’t know if the umpire checked with the third umpire at the time; I was not at the scene at the time.”

The loss eliminates Sylhet from the race for the playoffs and the franchise confirmed they had submitted a complaint in the aftermath.

“We have lodged a complaint,” added Sylhet media manager Tamzidul Islam during a press conference.

“Our captain pointed out the error during the match on the field. The third umpire cross-checked and told us to lodge a written complaint.”

The situation was further exacerbated when Rahman adjudged the first ball of the final over of the game, bowled by Tim Bresnan, to be a wide. 

The marginal call upset the Sylhet players, and several remonstrated with the officials at the end of play.
