AB de Villiers has been a mainstay in the Indian Premier League for some time

Former South African batsman AB de Villiers has been confirmed to be taking part in the 2019 edition of the Pakistan Super League, Pakistan’s franchise Twenty20 competition.

After not featuring in the first three editions of the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board have managed to sign the explosive batsman for its fourth season, to be held in February 2019.

The announcement, made by Pakistan Super League on their official Twitter page presented in the form of a video message, saw de Villiers express his excitement at joining the tournament.

The 34-year-old said: “The Pakistan Super League has grown into one of the top T20 tournaments around the world.

"It has given Pakistanis much to cheer about. I've absolutely enjoyed watching some of the PSL games on television in recent years.

"But 2019 will be different. In 2019, I will be participating in the PSL. I certainly can't wait. I'll see you there. Aap ka shukria (thank you!)."

The announcement comes after Indian Premier League side Royal Challengers Bangalore confirmed that the explosive middle-order batsman will play for the franchise in the 2019 IPL while the South African will also be involved in the upcoming UAE T20x franchise tournament to be held in the United Arab Emirates.

There has been no official word yet on which team the South African, who has scored 6649 runs in T20 matches across his career, will compete for in the tournament in Pakistan.
