Warwickshire are signing Craig Miles (second left) from Gloucestershire

Craig Miles is to leave Gloucestershire and join Warwickshire at the end of the County Championship season.

The seamer has agreed a three-year deal at Edgbaston and follows current team-mate Liam Norwell in moving to the Midlands.

"Just three weeks ago Craig showed what an exciting prospect he is, by taking five for 69 against us at Edgbaston," Warwickshire sport director Ashley Giles said.

"He consistently takes wickets but has also made notable contributions with the bat throughout his first-class career.

"Aged just 24, he has the opportunity to go far in the game if he continues his development and makes major contributions for Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears."

Miles has claimed 229 first-class wickets since making his debut as a 16-year-old.

"I am absolutely delighted to be joining up with the squad at Edgbaston," he said. "I am aware of the talent and ambition within the squad and can’t wait to get started."

As a Gloucestershire member who has paid subs year in year out, in part to invest in local talent, it is utterly infuriating to see a predatory swoop by a richer club, the second time in a matter of weeks. Not long ago county cricket offered supporters of all counties a realistic prospect of success in national competitions over a three or four year period. Now we have a structure rewarding players' disloyalty and bullying by the richer clubs (or maybe it's just Warwickshire). We look destined to have as dull a domestic scene as in professional football where only a few rich clubs prevail.

It’s a shame the division one clubs taking the best players from the second division clubs that have spent time and money bringing them through there youth systems, but you can’t blame the players wanting to play in division one
