'I don't think I'll be forgetting this in a hurry': Clark happy with extraordinary hat-trick

Of the 19 wickets to fall on day one of the game between Lancashire and Yorkshire, Clark claimed three in succession early in the first session, removing England Test captain Joe Root, his Kiwi equivalent Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow

Jordan Clark's sensational hat-trick was the talk of the town on day one of the Roses clash at Old Trafford, but the allrounder said the "sting" had been taken out of a phenomenal achievement by Lancashire's collapse with the bat.

Of the 19 wickets to fall on day one, Clark claimed three in succession early in the first session, removing England Test captain Joe Root, his Kiwi equivalent Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow.

The trio share a grand total of 14,639 Test runs between them.

Clark was obviously delighted from a personal perspective but from a team point of view, after Lancashire slumped to 109 for nine in response to Yorkshire's 192 all out, he was a little deflated.

"I was happy to get my first wicket to be honest, so to get three in row I was over the moon. It sort of took the sting out of it with the way we've gone with the bat, but we've got a big opportunity tomorrow to turn it around," he said.

"There's been a few shout outs on Twitter of a few good hat-tricks. Any hat-trick to me would be a great one, but to get them three is very special.

"I don’t think I’ll be forgetting this in a hurry. It will live long in the memory.

"You don't plan on getting hat-tricks. You plan on doing the small things right, and there’s an element of luck in there as well. At the end of the day, they’re the ones who make a mistake as well as you bowling a good ball."

Despite the flurry of wickets on day one, Clark does not think the Old Trafford playing surface offers an unfair advantage to the bowlers.

“I think it’s a really good cricket wicket. Talking about our guys, there were a few good balls and some poor decision making. I don’t think the scores portray how the wicket is," he said.

“We always talk about trying not to lose wickets in clumps, but we did today. It puts pressure on the next man.

“There weren't many partnerships. We got off to a good start with Keaton and Alex, but it was a good catch by Joe. We just need to build partnerships when we bat again.

“We’ve got the bowlers to start things tomorrow."
