Joe Root is available for seven of Yorkshire's initial block of T20 Blast fixtures.

The England batter could even play all eight as he continues to prepare for the start of the home Test summer.

Named in the squad for the visit of Worcestershire Rapids on Thursday (May 30), he is set to make his first T20 appearance for his county in two years.

Root is three appearances short of 100 in T20 cricket and five away from 50 in the format for Yorkshire.

Across April and May, Root has played five County Championship matches ahead of the West Indies Test series, which begins on July 10.

"I really enjoy coming back and playing," he said.

"I didn't play a game for Yorkshire last year, so to get a string of games together, to get in and amongst the group, which is very young and different to the team I regularly played in – and to have a different role within that, is exciting.

"It's an opportunity to try and give back to the club which has given me so much throughout my career.

"I've not played a lot of Twenty20 cricket of late.

"It's something I really enjoy doing, and it would be nice to represent Yorkshire as much as I can whilst I can."
