Yorkshire have officially begun their search for a new head coach after announcing the opening of the application process on December 17.

The club are seeking a replacement for Andrew Gale who left Yorkshire, alongside the entire coaching staff, in the wake of Azeem Rafiq’s allegations of institutional racism.

Gale was appointed as Yorkshire’s head coach in November 2016 after previously serving as club captain.

The Cricketer believes Anthony McGrath, who is currently the head coach of Essex, is Yorkshire’s first choice. The 45-year-old has won both the County Championship and T20 Blast since taking over the reins at Chelmsford in November 2017.

Whoever fills the position will have overall responsibility for the performance and management of the first team and will work alongside Darren Gough, who was appointed as interim managing director on December 6.

Yorkshire are also looking to recruit six non-executive directors to sit on the board. They are tasked with tackling racism and discrimination and ushering in a new era at the club.

Club chairman Lord Patel said: "There is a lot of work to be done to ensure that Yorkshire County Cricket Club is a club for everyone. We are committed to fostering excellence throughout the team, and we need people at the club who believe in the process we are undertaking and want to be part of it.

"The roles we are advertising today will play a crucial part in the development of an inclusive and welcoming culture that learns from the past and welcomes progress."
