Worcestershire award promising spinner Olly Davidson rookie contract

The 18-year-old left-arm spinner made his senior debut for Scotland in June and also picked up eight wickets against Nottinghamshire in his first 2nd XI appearance

Olly Davidson has penned a one-month rookie contract with Worcestershire.

The young spinner will be available for the duration of the Royal London Cup and is expected to link up with the squad ahead of their clash with Yorkshire in Scarborough on August 7.

Assistant coach, Alan Richardson, said: "Olly has played one 2nd XI game in which he did well and has shown some good stuff in age group and club cricket.

"He has a skill set which is the same as Josh [Baker], and it gives Olly an opportunity in and around the squad, where he may or may not play a game. Henry [Cullen] and Ben [Parker] really benefitted from last year’s experience.”

Davidson has made one appearance for the county, recording figures of 6 for 111 and 2 for 57 in a 2nd XI fixture against Nottinghamshire in July.

The spinner also enjoyed a memorable campaign for Scotland at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean, taking seven wickets, and made his senior ODI debut against the UAE in June.
