Toby Roland-Jones has stated a desire to return the good times to Middlesex after agreeing a new two-year contract with the county.

Seam bowling allrounder Roland-Jones is a crucial member of the Seaxes' dressing room, with 224 appearances for the club across formats since his 2010 debut, but he has struggled with injuries over recent seasons.

A stress fracture of his back derailed his international prospects in 2017 and those issues resurfaced the following year.

Hopes of featuring during the truncated 2020 campaign were then curtailed by a shoulder problem which ruled him out of the campaign.

And last year he only played three first-class matches before requiring surgery on a knee issue, only returning towards the backend of the season.

Middlesex have kept faith in Roland-Jones, however, and with a clear pre-season he will be pivotal to their hopes of securing promotion to Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship.

TOBY ROLAND-JONES: CAREER STATS

His new deal extends until the end of the 2023 county summer, and the news comes the day before his 34th birthday.

Roland-Jones said: "I feel hugely fortunate that my passion for the club and the game continues to grow, as it has since the day I joined, back in 2010.

"The excitement and potential in this squad gives us every opportunity to return this club to the level it should be at, and I look forward to playing any part I can to make that happen."

Head of men's performance at Middlesex, Alan Coleman, said: "He is a huge character in our dressing room, a great influence to the rest of our group, and a key player for us on the field.

"We saw at the back end of last season what he is capable of as a player, just like we have witnessed for many seasons beforehand, and I am certain that we’ll be seeing much more of that over the next two seasons."
