Nottinghamshire bowler Toby Pettman has joined Derbyshire on a short-term loan.

The 24-year-old will be available for the club’s LV= Insurance County Championship clash against Middlesex.

Derbyshire’s bowling attack is currently heavily depleted by injuries, with Ben Aitchison and Suranga Lakmal among the notable absentees. Hayden Kerr and George Scrimshaw, meanwhile, are managing their workloads in order to build their fitness for the longer formats.

Pettman is yet to make his senior debut for Nottinghamshire but has made seven first-class appearances for Oxford University, taking 33 wickets at 22.15.

The 6ft 7in bowler has impressed in the Second XI Championship, taking 32 wickets in 2021 and 19 wickets at 20.47 this season.

Commenting on the move, Pettman said: "This is a great chance to gain more first-class experience and I can’t wait to get out there and show what I can do.

"Derbyshire have had a good start to the red-ball season, so it’s an exciting team to be a part of. I’m looking forward to making a good contribution with the ball and hopefully getting a good result against Middlesex."

Derbyshire head coach, Mickey Arthur, added: "Due to the bowlers we have out, we needed a seamer who could come in and keep it tight from one end, while taking some of the workload off our frontline quicks.

"Toby has a lot of talent and we’re looking forward to seeing how he gets on at Queen’s Park against Middlesex."
