The 32-year-old spinner took 29 wickets at 26.41 in last season's County Championship as well as picking six wickets in four Royal London Cup appearances
Simon Kerrigan has signed a two-year contract extension with Northamptonshire which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2024 season.
The 32-year-old’s contract was due to expire at the end of next season.
Kerrigan, a left-arm spinner, made 11 appearances for Northamptonshire in the 2021 County Championship, taking 29 wickets at 26.41, including five-fors against Sussex and Yorkshire, and scoring 224 runs. Only Ben Sanderson (43) took more red-ball wickets for the club last season.
He also made four appearances in the Royal London Cup, taking six wickets.

Commenting on his contract extension, Kerrigan, who won the County Championship with Lancashire in 2011, said: "I am delighted to have been offered an extension and for the faith that not only the new coaching team, but Rips and co last year, have shown in me.
"Hopefully I can repay the faith moving forward and be part of a successful era for Northamptonshire."
Looking ahead to next season, he continued: "It’s a really exciting time to be at the club. We’ve got Will Young coming in who’s a high class player and I’m sure he’ll be chomping at the bit to get going. There’s a good blend and mix of young and experienced players in our squad, so hopefully, we can really competitive in the County Championship."
Bowling coach, Chris Liddle, backed Kerrigan to continue being a game-changer for Northamptonshire, adding: "He’s an important part of our squad, especially in Championship cricket because when you look at all successful red-ball sides they have a spinner that can turn games when conditions suit or contain when required and we believe we’ve got that spinner in Simon.
"He has a wealth of experience and a fantastic cricket brain, he’s a competitor who pushes high standards within the bowling group and is great to work with."
