The West Indies fast bowler has initially joined for three County Championship matches, but he could remain for Yorkshire's run-in shoulld he impress
Shannon Gabriel's upcoming three-match stint at Yorkshire could be extended, says Darren Gough.
The West Indies fast bowler has joined on a short-term deal as an overseas player through July, with Yorkshire facing Surrey, Hampshire and Somerset in their next LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures.
But Gough, the county's interim managing director of cricket, confirmed that the arrangement could be extended should Gabriel impress, with Ottis Gibson – Yorkshire's head coach – familiar with the 34-year-old from his time as West Indies head coach.
"If he impresses, we have another four Championship games in which he could play," said Gough. "We will have a look at him and see how things go. He's a good performer. We had a few options, but someone of his quality who we could have for the rest of the season was the standout one of those."
He replaces Pakistan international Haris Rauf, who took 15 wickets in four appearances during the first half of the season.

Yorkshire face Surrey and Hampshire at Scarborough, while taking on Somerset at Taunton in the second game of the trio.
"He brings us something we're desperate for – pace," added Gough. "I've been lucky enough to see Shannon a few times, including overseas when England have been touring the Caribbean. He bowls a heavy ball, and he has aggression."
Yorkshire are Gabriel's third county, having taken 11 wickets across spells with Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
