Retiring Mattie McKiernan among players leaving Derbyshire at end of 2023

Tom Wood, Archie Harrison, Suranga Lakmal and Mark Watt are also leaving the club at the end of the season

Mattie McKiernan is retiring from professional cricket at the end of the 2023 campaign.

Suranga Lakmal, Mark Watt, Archie Harrison and Tom Wood are also leaving the club at the end of the season alongside former captain Billy Godleman.

McKiernan made his Derbyshire debut in 2018 and was a regular in the T20 Blast, taking 32 wickets with an economy of 8.53 in 42 appearances.

He featured a further 25 times in first-class and List A cricket for the club, taking 13 wickets and scoring a County Championship century against Leicestershire in 2022.

McKiernan will move into the world of coaching after hanging up his spikes.

Former Sri Lanka international Lakmal picked up 23 wickets in nine first-class appearances for Derbyshire acoss the past two seasons, as well as featuring in the One-Day Cup.

Watt, meanwhile, has represented Derbyshire since 2019, making 57 appearances across the formats.

However, due to the 2024 T20 World Cup clashing with the T20 Blast, the Scotland international will not be retained for next season.

Wood made 44 appearances in eight seasons, scoring 976 runs, while Harrison made one List A appearance in 2022.
