Leicestershire "have to do some soul searching" after their winless run, which leaves them bottom of the LV= Insurance County Championship, continued with an innings defeat inside three days to Worcestershire at New Road.

After Azhar Ali's 225 helped Worcestershire establish a 429-run lead after both sides had batted once, the visitors were skittled out for just 170 in 58 overs on the third evening to lose by an innings and 259 runs.

The display was in stark contrast to the resilience shown in the draw with Sussex in the previous round.

Nixon's side go into the first block of T20 Blast fixtures bottom of the Championship with a measly 46 points from seven matches.

The 51-year-old former England international is five seasons into his third spell at Leicestershire, after two successful periods at Grace Road as a player.

He used the defeat to publicly eviscerate the performance of his players and has promised supporters the entire squad will enter a period of reflection on their wretched start to the season.

"It hurts and this is the lowest point of my head coach role," he said according to the ECB Reporters Network.

"We had great progression last year, our best year in the last 10, and we haven’t fired.

"Our overseas players haven’t fired and we haven’t supported them as a batting and bowling unit.

"For us, that wasn’t a first-class performance. We have to do some soul searching. We have to reflect and we have to be honest.

"Our discipline with bat and ball wasn’t good enough."
