Nick Browne has signed a new contract which will keep him at Essex until the end of the 2024 season.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the county in May 2013 and has since chalked up over 150 appearances across all formats, scoring nearly 8,500 runs and winning five trophies.

Predominantly a red-ball player, he has scored 7,554 runs at 36.14 in 137 first-class matches, including 19 centuries and 31 half-centuries, and helped Essex win the County Championship in 2017 and 2019.

Last season, he scored 543 runs at 24.68 in 14 Championship appearances and also featured once in the One-Day Cup.

However, he will need a new opening partner next season following Alastair Cook's retirement.

"It's fantastic to stay here at Chelmsford, a place that has given me a wonderful career and some amazing memories," Browne said.

"I was born locally and it means a huge amount to me to be able to represent the region where I grew up. I look forward to winning more trophies for the Essex fans and members."

Head coach, Anthony McGrath, added: "I'm really pleased we've managed to keep Nick at Essex for at least another year.

"We've been keen to secure the futures of our most promising young players, but a key ingredient of a winning team is getting the blend of youth and experience just right.

"Nick brings the latter in spades, and he's a quality option at the top of the order as well as being a great character to have in the dressing room."
