Sussex we be without Ollie Robinson for their opening LV=Insurance County Championship match of the season against Nottinghamshire.

But the seamer, who missed all three of England's Tests in the West Indies with a back problem, is expected to return for the second match at Derbyshire, starting on April 14.

Robinson suffered the issue in a warm-up match against a Cricket West Indies President's XI and was forced out of the first Test in Antigua.

He was held back for the third Test and series decider in Grenada but suffered a setback in training.

Red-ball coach Ian Salsbury said, according to The Argus: "We have been in contact with him throughout the winter.

"He will be back bowling during the first game here.

"He won’t play in that first game but we are hoping from the second game onwards.

"We have been assured he will be available for quite a few games, which is obviously good news."

Robinson's durability has been under the microscope across the winter having been told to improve his fitness by bowling coach Jon Lewis during the Ashes.

Sussex play six Championship matches and a four-day tour match against New Zealand before England face the Kiwis in three June Tests.

And the club expect him to be available for much of that run.

"I know Ollie can’t wait to get back in," added Salisbury.

"I think he has got a few points to prove as well.

"If you look back at the evidence from last year, when he left us to start playing for England, we all saw what an amazing impact he had straight away.

"He has fallen back in love with the game because his body doesn’t hurt."

"A lot of planning and I believe the best bowling coach in the country will help him get where he needs to get.

"We have got every confidence in getting him back to where he wants to be and where England would want him to be."

Jofra Archer is edging back to full fitness after ramping up his recovery from elbow problems in the Caribbean.

Originally ruled out until the start of the summer, it remains to be seen how much of the campaign the 27-year-old is available.

But Sussex are hopeful of having him available for their T20 Blast season, which begins on May 26 against Glamorgan.

"We have had good communication about Jofra as well," Salisbury explained.

"He is in great spirits again after having a difficult couple of years after his meteoric rise.

"He has fallen back in love with the game because his body doesn’t hurt."

T20 coach James Kirtley added: "It is important that we are quite unique here at the ground in that we have all the facilities on site.

"It is a big attraction to have the net facility here, the ground and the gym facility and any rehab facility here.

"They know they are coming to a very safe environment where we have got fantastic relationships with any of our players.

"Equally they know they have some of the best facilities all on one site and they are not having to scoot off here, there and everywhere.

"It is important we look after the individual."
