Nathan Sowter has signed a two-year deal with Durham which will keep him at the Riverside until the end of 2025.

The 31-year-old initially joined the club on loan in 2022 before making his move permanent for 2023, penning a one-year white-ball contract.

Last season, Sowter took 24 wickets with an economy of 6.73 in 14 T20 Blast outings, placing him top of the charts among spin bowlers and joint-fifth overall. Of the 39 players to take 15 or more wickets, only Hampshire's John Turner (6.67) maintained a lower economy.

Across his career, Sowter has taken 116 T20 wickets in 109 appearances, 103 of which have come in 95 T20 Blast outings.

Sowter said: "I am excited to extend my deal with Durham, I have loved every minute of my time with the club so far.

"With ambitions to keep improving in all formats across the club, it was a no brainer to commit for another two years. I can't wait to be a part of the club as we continue to progress."

Director of cricket, Marcus North, added: "Since joining Durham we have seen how much of a key performer he is in this format and to secure his future at Durham is extremely exciting.

"He brings a huge amount of experience and quality and we are looking forward to Nathan and Callum Parkinson forming a formidable partnership in our T20 Blast over the coming seasons."

Fellow spinner George Drissell has also put pen to paper on a new contract with Durham, signing a one-year extension to take him through to the end of 2024.

The 24-year-old has taken 13 wickets in 20 appearances for Durham, including eight wickets in seven One-Day Cup matches in 2023.
