Mark Ramprakash will continue in his role as a consultant batting coach at Middlesex until at least the end of the 2022 season.

The former Middlesex batter, who is one of only 17 players to score more than 15,000 first-class runs for the club, has been working with the squad throughout the winter.

Ramprakash scored 35,659 runs, including 114 centuries, across his first-class career as well as 13,273 List A runs and 1,719 T20 runs. He represented Middlesex between 1987 and 2000 before moving to Surrey.

Since retiring in 2012, he has transitioned into coaching, serving as a batting coach at Middlesex between 2012 and 2014 and within the England Test set-up since 2014.

Middlesex’s head of men's performance cricket, Alan Coleman said: "I’m thrilled that he has committed himself to the group for the rest of this season, and I can’t wait to see what we can collectively achieve with him as an important part of the coaching unit.

"Since he joined us at the start of our winter training programme, the impact he’s had has been incredible. He has brought an energy to our sessions that not only engages the players but constantly challenges them to improve.

"He has engaged the group, who are showing plenty of signs of responding well to his methods, and in Ramps we have a coach that completely gets what we’re trying to achieve as a playing group and coaching team and cares deeply about the club.

"I share his view that you don’t want to waste a single session and that getting in the nets isn’t simply about hitting balls.

"He raises the intensity, puts the players under pressure in scenario-based sessions, where every ball counts and every shot matters."

Ramprakash will work alongside first team coach Richard Johnson, who was appointed as Stuart Law's successor in January.
