Gloucestershire have been hit by a season-ending injury to fast bowler Marchant de Lange.

The South African only arrived at the county ahead of this summer, making the short move from Somerset on a three-year deal.

But The 32-year-old, who is believed to have made a major impact off the field since joining the club, suffered a thigh injury in the T20 Blast defeat by Essex and underwent surgery on the issue on June 7.

"We're all hugely disappointed for Marchant that he's been ruled out for the rest of the season," said Steve Snell, Gloucestershire's performance director.

"Marchant has made a significant impact both on and off the field since his arrival, and we're going to do everything we can to ensure he is back out on the pitch as soon as possible."

De Lange's injury came shortly after bowling allrounder Danny Lamb signed on loan from Lancashire to help stave off an injury crisis. The Cricketer understands that promising seamer Tom Price is nearing a return after a spell out with back trouble. Ajeet Singh Dale is also yet to feature in the T20 Blast this summer.

None are as sharp as the former South Africa Test bowler, though, who took just six wickets in four rain-affected County Championship fixtures in the first block of red-ball matches but bowled sharply and then played a key role in the club's first win of the season – against Middlesex in the Blast.
