Ed Moulton joins on loan from Lancashire for the rest of the season
Derbyshire have lost Luis Reece for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Reece will undergo surgery and is not expected to play any further part in the campaign after nursing the issue over the last couple of seasons.
The news is the latest injury setback to occur at The Incora County Ground this term, with the likes of Wayne Madsen and Nick Potts having spent lengthy spells out.
“Luis is carrying two or three injuries at the moment and he needs to get some work done on them," head of cricket Dave Houghton said of Reece, who is also carrying a knee issue.
“Our medical team are telling us it will take between six and nine months to recover, so we’ve taken the decision to let him get it done straight away, hopefully in the next week, so we should have him fit to play early next season.”
Ed Moulton has joined on loan from Lancashire as cover.
The 22-year-old seamer has impressed during two second XI matches against Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.
Moulton has played one first-class match, against Leicestershire in last season's Bob Willis Trophy, and goes straight into the squad to face the Foxes starting on September 5.
"This is a massive opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get started with Derbyshire.
"The senior lads I’ve played with in the second XI are a really good group and I’m looking forward to learning from them in the final few games of the season."
