Lewis Hill signs Leicestershire contract extension

The 31-year-old was the club’s leading run-scorer in both the County Championship and Royal London Cup last season, and scored 1,457 runs across all three formats

Lewis Hill has committed his future to Leicestershire after signing a contract extension of an undisclosed length.

The 31-year-old, who came through the Leicestershire academy, was the club’s leading run-scorer in both the County Championship and Royal London Cup last season, scoring 944 runs in the former and 322 runs in the latter. He finished the season with 1,457 runs across all three formats.

Hill also captained Leicestershire in List A cricket in 2021, narrowly missing out on reaching the knockout stages of the Royal London Cup.

Off the back of his standout season, Hill was named One Day Player of the Year, Fans’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at the club’s end of season awards.

Commenting on signing a contract extension, Hill said: "Last season was fantastic for me personally. To score as many runs as I did was great and to be able to captain Leicestershire in the Royal London Cup was a dream come true.

"I am delighted to have signed an extension at the Uptonsteel County Ground and I cannot wait to see where this squad can go in the future."

Director of cricket, Claude Henderson, added: "We are extremely pleased that Lewis [Hill] has agreed a contract extension here at the Uptonsteel County Ground. He had a very good 2021 with the bat and has shown his capabilities in all three formats."
