Kent have signed New Zealand seamer Matt Henry for the second half of the 2022 season.

Henry, 29, previously represented the county in 2018, claiming 75 wickets in just 11 games at just 15.48 apiece.

He is due to arrive at Canterbury in early July, making him available for seven County Championship matches and for the duration of the Royal London Cup.

Henry said: “I have really good memories of playing for Kent in the past - I’m driven to bring more success to the county in 2022.

“It was fantastic to see Kent win silverware in 2021, and I know that further trophies are the target for everyone at the county next season – hopefully I can have an impact in making that happen.”

He was originally due to return to the club in 2020, only for the move to be withdrawn due to the pandemic.

Henry was a key part of Kent's success in 2018

As well as starring in red-ball cricket, he was part of the Kent side that reached the final of the 50-over competition, during which he took 16 wickets in 11 games.

At international level, Henry has taken 37 Test wickets and 98 in ODIs.

Kent’s director of cricket, Paul Downton, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Matt back to Kent for the second half of the season. We know he will be a great influence on our dressing room and he has regularly shown himself to be a bowler of the highest quality in English conditions.

“He will boost an already strong seam attack for the latter stages of the County Championship run-in and will, I am sure, play a significant role in the Royal London Cup as we aim to compete strongly across all formats.”
