Surrey's title hopes have been given a timely boost by the return of Kemar Roach for the rest of the LV= Insurance County Championship season.

A hamstring injury saw the 34-year-old's spell cut short after just two games in April.

But after returning to full fitness and taking 10 wickets during the 2-0 Bangladesh Test series win, Roach is back at the Kia Oval with immediate effect.

"We know all the qualities that Kemar brings and I look forward to seeing him play a big part in the last five championship games," said director of cricket Alec Stewart.

Roach is in line to make his Surrey return against Essex at the Kia Oval on Tuesday (July 19).

The West Indies' sixth-highest Test wicket-taker - he overtook Michael Holding during the Bangladesh Tests - claimed four scalps in two appearances for Surrey earlier in the campaign.

He goes back to south London to find Surrey unbeaten in Division One, honing in on a 20th County Championship title.

In 2021, Roach picked up 22 wickets at 20.54 in five appearances for the club.
