Jamie Porter has signed a long-term contract extension with Essex which will keep him at Chelmsford until at least 2027.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire county career at Essex, taking 504 wickets in 176 appearances in all formats.

Predominantly a red-ball bowler, he has taken 447 first-class wickets at 23.53 for Essex, including taking at least 50 wickets for four successive seasons (2015-18). In 2017, his haul of 75 wickets helped them win the County Championship.

In 2023, he discovered his best form, with 57 wickets at 19.05 in 14 matches to finish fourth in the bowling charts across both divisions.

"It feels great to sign an extension with Essex, a club that I love playing for," Porter said.

"I've developed massively as a cricketer during the decade I've spent here, played with some fantastic teammates, and had a lot of fun over the years.

County cricket ins and outs 2024: Signings, transfers, squad updates

"There's been a lot of change this winter in the squad, but I still believe we have one of the strongest groups in the country and I'm looking forward to playing a big part in the years ahead!"

Head coach, Anthony McGrath, added: "Jamie's resilience spoke for itself last year as, after a tough couple of seasons with injury, he re-established himself as one of the best bowlers in the country.

"Now, as one of our senior bowlers, we're hoping he can replicate that form again to both make us successful and provide inspiration to our younger players."
