James Vince has signed a three-year contract extension with Hampshire which will keep him at the Ageas Bowl until at least the end of 2025.

The 31-year-old, who made his first-team debut for the club in May 2009, has scored 17,666 runs in 405 appearances across all formats and lifted four trophies – T20 Blast (2010, 2012), County Championship Division Two (2014) and the 2018 Royal London Cup – during his time on the south coast.

Vince has also made 50 appearances for England across all formats while at Hampshire, winning the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

In 2021, Vince, who has captained Hampshire since 2015, once again led from front, scoring a team-leading 816 runs at 40.80 as his side narrowly missed out on LV= Insurance County Championship glory and a further 373 runs on the Hawks’ run to T20 Blast Finals Day.

Commenting on signing his contract extension, Vince said: "I’m delighted to have extended my contract for a further three years. I’ve been with Hampshire since 2006 and I’m proud to call the Ageas Bowl my home ground.

"I’ve enjoyed some fantastic experiences with the club, and we head into the 2022 season with an exciting group of players and added motivation after coming so close in 2021’s LV= Insurance County Championship. We’re looking forward to the start of the new season, one which will hopefully mark the beginning of a successful period for the club."

Vince has had something of a Midas touch in white-ball cricket over the past 18 months, winning the 2020-21 BBL with Sydney Sixers, PSL6 with Multan Sultans, and captaining Southern Brave to glory in The Hundred.

He scored 1,341 T20 runs in 2021 – a haul only four players around the world could better – and having scored 350-plus runs in three of the past five editions of the Blast, he can be banked upon to perform for the Hawks once again in 2022.

With the red-ball, he and Ian Holland carried their side with the bat in 2021, scoring a combined 1,582 runs (three centuries, eight half-centuries). Batting at no.5, Vince was Hampshire’s glue in the middle order and played several match-saving knocks in the divisional stage to keep his side in the running for the title until the final match.

His long-term commitment is a huge boost to Hampshire's red-ball ambitions, as is the signing of top-order batters Nick Gubbins and Ben Brown.

Giles White, Hampshire’s director of cricket, said: "James is not only a fantastic player in every format but also an excellent captain, so we are of course, delighted that he has committed for the long term. He’s an integral part of the club and it’s great to have him leading the team in what promises to be an exciting period for the club."
