James Pattinson has been released from his Nottinghamshire contract to return home to Australia.

Pattinson signed a multi-format deal for the whole 2022 county campaign, but will play no further part. He requested to be released for a combination of personal and fitness reasons.

The 32-year-old former Australia international claimed 33 County Championship wickets for Notts this year, but only bowled four overs in the T20 Blast and has not featured in the Royal London Cup.

"After having another child recently, I'm keen to be there and provide support and I think the best place to do that is back in Australia," he said.

"Also, my body has really struggled with getting through the county season, so I just really need to give it a break.

"I wish Notts all the very best for the rest of the season and really hope we can take out the second division title."

"We're all really sorry that Jimmy won’t be involved in these last few games," Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said. "But it's a decision he's made that's right for him, and one we respect completely, so we wish Jimmy and his family well."
