Benkenstein is "likely to return" from South Africa for his side's first home match of the 2023 campaign, which will see them take on Yorkshire in Bristol from Thursday, April 13.
The club are not making any further comment at this time.
Benkenstein signed a three-year deal as Gloucestershire head coach back in November 2021 but suffered relegation in his first season at the helm, winning just two red-ball matches.
His side finished fifth in the South Group in the T20 Blast and fifth in Group A in the Royal London Cup, missing out on the knockout stages in the latter competition on net run rate.
