A future Championship venue? Repton's hopes after Derbyshire's List A return

Ian Pollock, from the school, spoke to The Cricketer Schools Podcast about its use as an outground – and whether it could host red-ball county cricket

Repton School "wouldn't rule out" wanting to host County Championship games after its return as a Derbyshire’s men’s List A venue.

Ian Pollock, from the school, joined the latest episode of The Cricketer Schools Podcast to talk about how Repton transformed itself into a county outground when Derbyshire hosted Worcestershire there in the One Day Cup last August.

During the interview, which is available in full here, he was also quizzed on whether the school would like to host a Championship fixture in future.

"It's not one I've discussed with the team here," said Pollock.

"We're very fortunate to have a team that delivers cricket here who really would understand the demands of that. It wouldn't be something they'd necessarily need to understand in more detail.

"We’re very fortunate to have that in our coaching team and our cricket leadership team.

"Ultimately, it comes down to pitches. That would be a great challenge from the school's perspective.

"We're very fortunate to have the relationship with the county that we do. That's been built by a number of staff over a long time and it's as strong as it’s ever been.

"If the county have got that confidence in us as a venue for any level of professional cricket at the moment, then that's a fantastic thing from our perspective.

"We all love red-ball cricket. I'm sure there’s a lot of people listening to this who see it as the ultimate form of the game, so I wouldn't rule that out in future, but we're just delighted that Derbyshire see us as a potential professional venue for them."

Derbyshire will return to Repton for their One Day Cup game against Glamorgan this summer.
