Derbyshire have signed Scotland left-arm spinner Mark Watt for the 2023 season.

Watt, who has previously played for the county in 2019 and 2022, re-joins Derbyshire with his stock at its highest after a series of fine performances at the T20 World Cup, where he has impressed in both of the last two editions with his changes of pace and subtle variations.

The 26-year-old picked up 13 wickets in last year's T20 Blast and nine in the County Championship; he will be available to Derbyshire across all formats around Scotland's international commitments.

"Mark's attention to detail is what makes him such an exciting cricketer," said Mickey Arthur, Derbyshire's head of cricket. "He's always taking notes and is meticulous in his preparation for matches, that's something which will be key for us in all formats next season.

"It's that little bit of aggression and innovation which can make all the difference in big games, Mark has both of those qualities in abundance."

Watt has taken 62 international wickets in 52 matches and claimed three scalps in Scotland's win over West Indies in Hobart a fortnight ago.

He added: "I really enjoyed my time with Derbyshire in 2022, so it was an easy decision to come back for next season. You could see from the progress we made last season that we're building something, and the opportunity to contribute for the club across all formats is something I'm really excited about."
