Shan Masood and Suranga Lakmal are expected to be available from the start of the new English domestic season in a major boost to Derbyshire.

Mickey Arthur's side kick-off their campaign with the County Championship visit to Lord's to face Middlesex on April 7-10.

Masood, currently playing in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans, is part of the squad for next month's Australia Test series.

The third and final Test takes place in Lahore from March 21-25.

Quick-bowler Lakmal has an even larger window, with the series against India concluding in Bangalore from March 12-16.

The 34-year-old will call time on his Sri Lanka career at the end of the two-Test series ahead of the first of two seasons at the County Ground.

Derbyshire do not expect any complications to arise in their travel to the UK and believe they will both be available for selection at the home of cricket.

A pair of two-day friendlies against Lancashire (March 24-25) and Nottinghamshire (March 29-30) will act as warm-up matches ahead of the new campaign.

Leus du Plooy is also set to be involved from the beginning of the campaign.

The 27-year-old has spent the winter with South Western Districts and played his final innings in the win over Northern Cape at the weekend.

Du Plooy signed off with a first-class best 186 to cap an eight-wicket win in Kimberley.

Due to return to the UK in the coming weeks, the South African - who qualifies as a local player due to holding a Hungarian passport - will go to Spain on the club's pre-season training camp.

Dustin Melton, who is in the process of becoming English qualified, Masood and Suranga make up the overseas contingent for the 2022 season.

No further additions will be made to either the squad, reduced to 19 after the exits of Matt Critchley (Essex), Fynn Hudson-Prentice (Sussex) and Nils Priestley, and Harvey Hosein's retirement, or Arthur's backroom team.

Dominic Cork coached the side in the T20 Blast in the last three seasons, including as they reached Finals Day for the first time in 2019, but there will be no similar arrangement this season.

The former South Africa, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka coach has also ruled out dipping into the loan market to improve his range of options.

Alex Thomson - who later joined permanently from Warwickshire -, Ed Moulton, Conor McKerr and Jade Dernbach all joined on short-term loan deals last term, while Connor Marhall and Ravi Rampaul were signed for the One-Day Cup as resources were stretched by injury, illness and The Hundred.

Luis Reece, who missed the final month of last season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery, is also targeting the opener at Middlesex but may only be fit enough to be deployed as a batter.
