Young seamer Nick Potts has signed a new three-year contract with Derbyshire.

The 19-year-old will remain at The Incora County Ground until the end of the 2024 season as a result of the deal.

Yet to make a senior outing for Derbyshire, Potts is a product of the club's academy system.

Recovery from an ankle impingement injury has limited the right-arm medium pacer to just four outings for the second XI in 2021.

"As a local player, it’s my ambition to play for Derbyshire, and I’m really pleased to have signed for the next three seasons," said Potts.

"I haven’t played much this year, but I still think I’ve made improvements in my game through working with the coaches and the more experienced players.

"I’m looking forward to getting back out there and pushing for a first-class debut to test myself and keep taking steps forward, that’s my next aim."

Head of cricket Dave Houghton added: “There’s no doubting Nick is a talent for the future and one that we are really keen to see progress with Derbyshire for years to come.

"We’ve had injuries this season, unfortunately, Nick is one of those players who has been affected, or he might have had a few opportunities already this year. If he keeps working hard his time will come and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do when he makes the step up."
