Billy Godleman has signed a new one-year contract at Derbyshire, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023 season.

The red-ball captain joined ahead of the 2013 campaign after spells at Middlesex and Essex.

Godleman has skippered Derbyshire more times than anyone (130) across the formats, and his next run will be his 10,000th for the club.

Derbyshire have made an unbeaten start to their LV= Insurance County Championship Division Two season with a victory and four draws.

"Derbyshire is a special club for me, it’s a real honour to lead such a talented side and I’m thankful to Mickey for the faith that he’s put in me," said Godleman.

"We’ve had a positive start to the season and I think everybody, from players to supporters, is rightly excited about what the future could hold for Derbyshire, with, arguably, the best coaching setup in the country."

Head coach Mickey Arthur, who retained Godleman as Championship captain before the start of the season, added: "Billy’s leadership on the field has been a key reason for our strong start to the season and he has the respect and backing of the dressing room.

"His career record speaks for itself, there are few players who can boast the first-class record Billy has had with Derbyshire so far, much of it batting at the top of the order."
