Dawid Malan is willing to do whatever he can to help Harry Brook's bid to break into England's Test team.

The 23-year-old did his hopes of a call-up no harm with a fifth first-class century in Yorkshire's victory over Gloucestershire in their opening LV= Insurance County Championship match of the season.

Malan, who contributed scores of 39 and 65 in the six-wicket success, saw his second spell in the Test team ended following the 4-0 Ashes defeat to Australia and was dropped for the West Indies series.

While he has not given up hope of being part of a new England regime, assisting Brook's own attempts to break into the fold is also on his mind.

Currently batting at No.4 with Brook coming in at No.5 for Yorkshire, Malan has proposed a swap in the order to prepare the youngster better for the rigours of the international red-ball game.

"Brooky’s definitely got the talent [to play Test cricket]," said Malan of Brook, who made his England debut during the West Indies T20I series, according to Yorkshire Post.

"The development I’ve seen from him has been massive in terms of learning how to win games and how to play situations in the game. He’s becoming a senior player who’s learning on his feet.

"Scoring runs at five in county cricket…of course, you still have to score those runs, you still have to score big runs.

"But if you’re going to be playing for England, you probably want to be scoring those runs a little bit higher, and how and when he moves up the order that’s obviously for the team management to decide.

"But I’m very happy to move down to five or six to allow him to go four, or whatever. I think the club knows that.

"I think Patto (captain Steven Patterson) knows that and Brooky probably knows that as well. At the end of the day, he’s getting better and better and the last thing you want to do is rush him.

"The best process for him is to keep scoring runs and let him score runs and, when the time’s right, he’ll probably get to a four or a three and hopefully push for that England spot."

England are next in Test action when they face New Zealand in a three-match series in June.
