The England batter was unable to field during Lancashire's first-innings on day two, after needing a runner while making his first century of the season at Old Trafford
England and Essex are sweating over the fitness of Dan Lawrence, who is set to undergo a scan on a troublesome hamstring injury.
Lawrence was making his return from the same injury in the LV= Insurance County Championship Division One clash with Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.
He had previously missed the draws with Northamptonshire and Yorkshire and been omitted from England's squad for next month's first Test against New Zealand at Lord's.
But while making his first century of the season Lawrence suffered a recurrence of the issue and was forced to bat with a runner, before being dismissed by James Anderson for 120.

A scan will now determine the full extent of the damage and could not only affect his role in the remainder of the four-day game but in Essex's T20 Blast campaign and England summer plans.
"Dan will be having a scan tomorrow morning and then the specialist will be having a look," head coach Anthony McGrath told BBC Radio Essex, according to the ECB Reporters Network.
"It’s hard to say but he definitely couldn’t run.
"We hope it’s not too severe but until we get the results we won’t know the severity of it."
