Northamptonshire have bolstered their attack for the opening four rounds of the County Championship by luring Chris Tremain back to Wantage Road for a second stint.

The 32-year-old, who has played four one-day internationals for Australia, took 13 wickets across a three-game spell last April.

He will be available to face Sussex at Hove in the opening round, the visits of Middlesex and Glamorgan before the trip to Leicestershire at the end of the month.

Tremain has hit red-hot form during the first block of the Sheffield Shield matches, taking a competition-best 34 wickets in six matches for New South Wales and will be hopeful of taking that form into the new county campaign.

"I enjoyed every moment I spent with the group last season, I hope I can make an impact for the time I'm there and help set the tone for the remainder of the County Championship," he said.

Prithvi Shaw is already confirmed to return to Northants from next June, following on from his glittering spell during the One-Day Cup, while George Scrimshaw and George Bartlett have arrived from Derbyshire and Somerset respectively.

Head coach John Sadler added: "His style of bowling is very well suited to English conditions so to have him locked in for those first four games is fantastic.

"He was only with us for a short stint last season but made a huge impact at the club on and off the field.

"He's in a rich vein of form in Australia at the moment and hopefully that continues when he rejoins us in April."
