Find out what happened on day one of the latest round of LV= Insurance County Championship matches
DIVISION ONE
Edgbaston (first day of four): Warwickshire 292, Lancashire
Sam Hain's high-class century kept Warwickshire afloat as Lancashire's bowlers impressed on the opening day of their LV= Insurance County Championship tussle at Edgbaston.
The home side were all out for 292 just before the close with Hain the last to fall for 130 (228 balls, 17 fours). The accomplished knock continued the 26-year-old's excellent red ball form, his last four championship innings having brought 449 runs for twice out.
Lancashire debutant Will Williams closed with 2 for 42 from 24 overs and the pressure he built contributed to wickets taken by his colleagues, notably Danny Lamb (3 for 43) and George Balderson (3 for 68)

Canterbury (first day of four): Gloucestershire 388-7, Kent
Gloucestershire seized the initiative on day one as the bottom two teams in County Championship Division One faced-off at Canterbury
The rock-bottom visitors recovered from being put in and reduced to 46 for 3 to reach stumps on 388 for 7 and are eyeing maximum batting points for just the second time this summer.
They were indebted largely to an imperious 125 from Glenn Phillips, in his maiden first-class appearance of the summer, with able support in the form of a half-century from Miles Hammond and Oli Price’s career-best unbeaten 48, compiled on his 21st birthday.
It was only the second time Gloucestershire have passed 280 in their first innings this season and left Kent with plenty to do if they are to force a result in a game considered crucial in the battle to avoid the drop in Division One.

Southampton (first day of four): Yorkshire 324-5, Hampshire
Harry Brook continued his extraordinary County Championship season with his ninth score over 50 as Yorkshire piled on the runs on a flat Ageas Bowl pitch.
Brook, who was released from the Test squad to play in this match, has played 10 red ball innings in 2022 with a lowest score of 41 and three centuries.
Against Hampshire, he showed his class with 76 but it was George Hill who spent the majority of the day grinding out a 220-ball century, the second of his career, before eventually departing for 131. Yorkshire reached close on 324 for 5.
Taunton (first day of four): Somerset 180, Surrey 56-1 - Surrey trail by 124 runs with nine first-innings wickets in hand
Jamie Overton made no concession to brotherly love on an explosive return to Taunton as Surrey bowled out Somerset for 180 on the opening day of the County Championship match.
The tall pace bowler, facing his former club, claimed three wickets and also sent twin Craig and Josh Davey for concussion assessments by striking them blows on the helmet with short-pitched deliveries.
Craig Overton returned to continue his innings when Davey was hurt and top-scored with 29, but his teammate was ruled out of the rest of the match and replaced by Kasey Aldridge.
Dan Worrall finished with 3 for 28 and Gus Atkinson 3 for 40 after Somerset skipper Tom Abell had won the toss. By the close, Surrey had replied with 56 for 1, Rory Burns unbeaten on 35.

DIVISION TWO
Cardiff (first day of four): Sussex 245-7, Glamorgan
A maiden first-class hundred from Oli Carter was the highlight on day one of the County Championship match between Glamorgan and Sussex in Cardiff as Sussex reached 245 for 7 at the close.
Carter came to the crease with his team in trouble at 29 for 2 and finished the day on 113 not out. The next highest score was the 55 made by Tom Clark as regular wickets pegged back Sussex’s first innings.
Andrew Salter bowled 33 overs in the day, conceding just 65 runs, as the Glamorgan seamers rotated from the other end.
Carter and Harry Crocombe were batting together at the close of play with Sussex still closing in on a second batting point.
Chester-le-Street (first day of four): Durham 375-3, Worcestershire
Rachin Ravindra produced a debut to remember for Durham, scoring a career-best 178 not out as the home side piled on the runs on day one against Worcestershire in their County Championship Division Two clash.
The New Zealander was only signed by Durham for one match after Keegan Petersen's premature departure, but certainly made an impression for the North-East outfit with a sublime unbeaten hundred, his fourth in first-class cricket.
He became the first overseas player since Tom Latham to score a century on debut for Durham, sharing a mammoth stand of 230 with Scott Borthwick, who notched 96, for the second wicket. Ravindra was there at the close alongside Jonathan Bushnell, unbeaten on his debut on 61, with the hosts positioned on 375 for 3 after the first day at Seat Unique Riverside.

Chesterfield (first day of four): Middlesex 251, Derbyshire 28-0 - Derbyshire trail by 223 runs with 10 first-innings wickets in hand
Luke Hollman and Ethan Bamber rescued Division Two leaders Middlesex on the opening day of the County Championship match against Derbyshire at Chesterfield.
Hollman made 48 and Bamber a career-best unbeaten 37 to take Middlesex to 251 after they slipped to 171 for 7.
Fast bowler Toby Pettman took 3 for 40 on his Championship debut and Anuj Dal returned the outstanding figures of 2 for 13 from 15 overs, 11 of them maidens.
In reply, Derbyshire moved to 28 without loss at stumps, 223 behind with Pakistani batter Shan Masood unbeaten on 27.
Leicester (first day of four): Leicestershire 340-8, Nottinghamshire
Centuries by Lewis Hill and Colin Ackermann enabled winless Leicestershire to enjoy their most productive opening day of the season so far as they returned to County Championship action at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
Despite being asked to bat first on a well-grassed pitch, the Foxes closed on 340 for 8 against promotion favourites Nottinghamshire, who came into the match looking for a fifth win of the campaign.
Hill - only the second Leicestershire batter to reach three figures this summer - made 104, sharing a stand of 141 for the third wicket with Ackermann, who became the third as his 116 guided his side to their highest total of the campaign. It is only the second time the Foxes have picked up three batting bonus points.
Nottinghamshire claimed four wickets in the final session, but it was not the day they would have anticipated when skipper Steven Mullaney won the toss and opted to give his bowlers first use of a surface that had good pace and carry and gave the ball a chance for much of the day.
