Aaron Hardie has withdrawn from his upcoming county stint with Surrey.

The Australia allrounder had been due to join the club in May and feature in both the County Championship and T20 Blast until the end of July.

However, Cricket Australia are keen to manage his workload, with the 25-year-old featuring regularly for Western Australia and Perth Scorchers throughout the 2023/24 season and also earning 11 white-ball caps since making his international debut last August.

Surrey are currently not planning on recruiting a replacement overseas player.

"Whilst we are obviously very disappointed that Aaron will not be joining the team this summer, I respect the decision of Cricket Australia and wish Aaron the very best," said director of cricket, Alec Stewart.

Hardie, who had previously represented Surrey in 2022, was one of three overseas players recruited by the club for the 2024 campaign.

Compatriot Sean Abbott is due to be available in both the County Championship and T20 Blast throughout May and June while West Indies bowler Kemar Roach will call the Kia Oval home for the first seven matches of the County Championship.
