Durham have signed Andrew Tye as a replacement for Ashton Turner, who picked up a shoulder injury last Friday night.

Turner, a compatriot of Tye, had only recently been named a Durham's captain for the competition before suffering the issue in his side's defeat by Northamptonshire as he dived in an attempt to make his ground.

A Durham statement confirmed that Turner is undergoing "a process of rehabilitation" in the hope that he might be able to feature once again later in the group stage.

"There are still lots of games to play and having lost Ashton Turner to injury we were keen to act quickly on a replacement," said Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket.

Liam Trevaskis captained Durham on Sunday against Birmingham Bears in the absence of Turner, who brings a different skillset to Tye, a specialist death bowler.

The pair are teammates at Perth Scorchers, and only Sean Abbott has taken more wickets in Big Bash history than Tye.

He has previously represented Gloucestershire in the T20 Blast, while also having turned out for Durham's second team alongside Mark Wood and Chris Rushworth more than a decade ago.
