Surrey have signed allrounder Aaron Hardie for the remainder of the T20 Blast.

Kieron Pollard, one of the club’s two overseas signings for the Blast, was forced to pull out of the tournament on June 21 with a knee injury.

The Australian will also be available for the club’s LV= Insurance County Championship clash with Yorkshire at Scarborough, which is scheduled to begin on July 11.

Hardie has made 28 T20 appearances in his career to date, scoring 246 runs at a strike rate of 128.79 and taking 15 wickets, and won the Big Bash with Perth Scorchers earlier this year.

In first-class cricket, the 23-year-old has scored 654 runs, including two centuries, and taken 32 wickets at 25.34 in 12 appearances. In April, he posted a career high score of 174 not out to help Western Australia to Sheffield Shield glory.

He will be available to face Kent in the Blast on July 1.

Commenting on joining Surrey, Hardie said: "I’m super stoked to be joining Surrey. I spoke to Laurie [Evans] and Jason [Roy] about what it’s like to play here at The Kia Oval and I’m really excited to see what the crowd bring on Friday.

"I’m keen to learn from players like Hashim as well as the younger guys in the dressing toom like Will Jacks and I hope I can make a good contribution to the team."

Director of cricket, Alec Stewart, said: "Aaron’s all round skill sets will bring us very good options in our Vitality Blast campaign and the County Championship game at Scarborough."

Surrey are currently top of the South Group in the T20 Blast, with nine wins from 12 matches and are all but guaranteed a top-two finish.
