Worcestershire's County Championship match against Sussex has been moved after flood warnings for the River Severn were issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood water has already started to make its way on to the field at Blackfinch New Road, and therefore the decision has been made to move the game to Kidderminster Cricket Club.

The start date has also been pushed back by one day to Tuesday, June 18 to allow ground and stadium staff to make preparations in order to host the fixture.

Worcestershire CEO Matt Rawnsley said: "This is not an ideal situation and we would always prefer to play at Blackfinch New Road, however the change of venue gives us the best chance of playing next week’s fixture.

"Kidderminster Cricket Club has hosted many first-class fixtures over the years and we are extremely grateful for their assistance at such short notice. We would also like to thank the ECB and Sussex County Cricket Club for their corporation."

This is the 13th flood at New Road during the first-class cseason since 1899, six of which have come since 2007, but is just the fourth June flood at the ground since records began in 1899.

Work is already underway at New Road to deal with the predicted flood to ensure Worcestershire's return to the ground as soon as possible.

Rain delays marred both Worcestershire's stalemate with Lancashire and Sussex's draw with Gloucestershire in the counties' previous County Championship outings.
