Bristol (day two of four): Gloucestershire 154 & 21-3, Northamptonshire 127 - Gloucestershire lead by 48 runs with seven wickets remaining

Gloucestershire seamers Matt Taylor and Craig Miles bowled their side back into contention on day two of a fast-moving County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Bristol.

Replying to the home side's first-innings 154, Northants were shot out for 127 inside 52 overs, Taylor returning figures of 5 for 36 and Miles 3 for 22 on a day when 57.4 overs were lost to rain and bad light. Captain Luke Procter top-scored with 38 for the visitors, who suffered a startling collapse in the final session, their last six wickets falling for 42 runs on a hybrid surface still offering assistance aplenty to the bowlers.

There was no let-up in the chaos when Gloucestershire commenced their second innings in the early-evening gloom, Harry Conway removing nightwatchman Will Williams and Ben Charlesworth with successive deliveries and Ben Sanderson sending back a second nightwatchman, Miles, as the home side reached stumps on 21 for 3.

Skipper Cameron Bancroft and Ollie Price reached stumps without further loss, and Gloucestershire, who lead by 48, will be hoping an improved weather forecast materialises when they resume in the morning.

Southport (day two of four): Worcestershire 270, Lancashire 28-0 - Lancashire trail by 242 runs with 10 wickets remaining

Persistent rain prevented any play on the second day of the County Championship match between Lancashire and Worcestershire at Southport.

The covers were on the square at Trafalgar Road well before the scheduled start of play at 11 am, and nothing that happened over the next few hours encouraged the groundstaff to consider removing them.

An early lunch was taken at 12.30, and it was no surprise at all when umpires Jack Shantry and Chris Watts abandoned play at 2.35 pm.

Beckenham (day two of four): Kent 523, Durham 173-5 - Durham trail by 350 runs with five wickets remaining

Durham were struggling on 173 for 5 against Kent, still trailing by 350, when rain forced an early end to day two of their County Championship match at Beckenham.

Kent's Ekansh Singh hit an unbeaten 66 to help Kent to 523 all out, after Durham started the second day with three wickets for four runs in the first two overs. However, Ekansh put on a century stand with Keith Dudgeon to swing the momentum back in Kent's favour.

Matthew Potts took 6 for 92 and claimed his 300th first-class wicket, but Matt Milnes and Ekansh took two wickets apiece to leave the Division Two leaders still 200 shy of the follow on at stumps. Milnes bowled England's new opener, Emilio Gay, for a duck, leaving David Bedingham and Ben Stokes as the not out batters on 77 and 8, respectively.

Lord's (day two of four): Middlesex 177 & 13-1, Derbyshire 376 - Middlesex trail by 186 runs with nine wickets remaining

Ben Aitchison became the first player to take five wickets and score a century for Derbyshire in the same match at Lord's as the visitors dominated against hosts Middlesex on day two.

Aitchison, who'd come in as nightwatcher the previous evening, reached three figures for the first time in his first-class career, making 112 and sharing a stand of 208 for the sixth wicket with skipper Wayne Madsen – the joint third-highest for any wicket by Derbyshire against their London hosts.

Veteran Madsen (119) also passed three figures for the first time at Lord's to help the men from the Peak District to a score of 376, a first innings lead of 199. On a dispiriting day for the host bowlers, Ryan Higgins again emerged with credit, taking 4 for 98.

Bad light curtailed Middlesex's second innings after tea, but there was still time for Aitchison to snaffle a sixth wicket of the match when Robson edged to slip, before the weather closed in.
