Lancashire bowled Kent out for 293 on day one of their County Championship match at Canterbury, before reaching 19 for 0 at stumps, to trail by 274.
Ben Compton hit 77 and Ben Dawkins 60, but Kent lurched from 217 for 2 to 274 for 5, before the next four wickets fell for four runs. Mitchell Stanley took 5e for 80 and Tom Hartley 3 for 68, although the bowling was marred by 37 extras, including 26 no balls.
Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings then survived eight overs to reach stumps on three and ten respectively.
James Anderson travelled with Lancashire but was left out of the starting XI due to soreness, while Kent handed a first-class debut to Mo Rizvi, and Michael Cohen made his first red-ball appearance for the hosts.

Toby Roland-Jones led Middlesex's fightback with his best County Championship bowling figures of the season after promotion rivals Derbyshire had threatened to dominate with the bat on the opening day at Lord's.
Caleb Jewell and Harry Came both hit half-centuries as they forged a century partnership to give the visitors a strong platform at 124 for 1 before Roland-Jones struck back with four wickets in the space of 27 balls.
The former Middlesex captain eventually finished with 6 for 77, while Ryan Higgins and Zafar Gohar shared the other four wickets evenly as Derbyshire, who began the day with a 24-point gap to second-placed Glamorgan, were bowled out for 283.
In reply, Middlesex openers Sam Robson and Josh de Caires trimmed that deficit slightly prior to stumps, reaching 12 without loss.

Northampton (day one of four): Glamorgan 367-6, Northamptonshire
Asa Tribe hit a career best unbeaten 181 to keep Glamorgan's promotion hopes firmly alive and put his side in a dominant position on day one of this County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Glamorgan were indebted to the 21-year-old Jersey international after losing four wickets before lunch after winning the toss, Luke Procter claiming two scalps. Opening the innings, Tribe never looked in real trouble, helping himself to 25 fours and two sixes in a fluent, confident innings and accounting for the bulk of the top-order runs.
Sam Northeast (17) and Ben Kellaway (23) kept him company in half-century stands, but it was not until Chris Cooke's arrival that Glamorgan mounted a substantial partnership, the keeper scoring 84, while adding 162 for the sixth wicket with Tribe. Although Cooke fell before the close, Glamorgan were in a healthy position at 367 for 6.
