Northamptonshire have signed right-arm fast bowler Jordan Buckingham for the next three County Championship matches as the Australian begins his first stint on English soil.

The 23-year-old averages 26 for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, having claimed 25 wickets in his first seven first-class matches.

First innings figures of 6 for 58 against New Zealand A saw Buckingham make the most of his maiden Australia A call-up.

Northamptonshire had Chris Tremain in their ranks for their first three matches of the season, but he has now departed, with Buckingham effectively replacing Lance Morris, who was due to take over from Tremain but has since been ruled out with a back injury.

Upon the deal being announced, Buckingham said: "I'm really grateful for the opportunity to represent such a proud club in Northamptonshire during my first stint in the UK.

"I'm thoroughly looking forward to getting stuck into it this week and to winning some four-day cricket with my new teammates for the next few games."

Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler added: "We're delighted to have Jordan on board.

"He's an exciting young prospect who's rated highly by Cricket Australia. He showed his quality for Australia A recently and we think he'll complement our bowling attack well."
