Former Glamorgan and Northamptonshire batsman James Kettleborough has joined Derbyshire as Second XI captain for 2018.

Kettleborough, who has played 22 first-class matches, played two Second XI fixtures for the county last year, scoring 180 against Yorkshire in a three-day friendly.

A Derbyshire statement read: "Kettleborough will support development coach, Mal Loye, in a new role where he will be responsible for leading Second XI team affairs on and off-the-field this summer, supported by player/coach Tony Palladino.

"The appointment follows the same model as the First XI where captain, and opening batsman, Billy Godleman, holds a similar leading role as team leader on and off-the-field, supported by First XI support coach, Stephen Stubbings."

Loye said: "James made a good impression both on the field and in the dressing room with the Second XI last summer. He is a good batsman with first-class experience and, in this new role, will provide strong leadership for our developing players.

"We have some exciting young talent coming through and they will benefit from the experience that James will bring."

Kettleborough said: "I’m grateful to Derbyshire for providing me with this opportunity. I really enjoyed my time at the club last summer and I’m looking forward to working closely with Mal and the county’s crop of talented young players coming through."
