A defiant unbeaten century from Tawanda Muyeye in the face of some probing Durham bowling handed Kent a draw on the final day of an enthralling County Championship clash.

At the start of the day, it was Durham in the ascendancy, but Kent struck back as the hosts lost five wickets in the first hour. However, Ben Raine led a recovery from the lower order, and Durham managed to set Kent a target of 357 after they declared on 218 for 9.

Kent’s chase got off to a poor start, but a partnership of 124 between Muyeye and Daniel Bell-Drummond steadied the ship, yet there was another twist as a double blow handed Durham renewed hope of a win.

However, Muyeye and Chris Benjamin held on to secure their side a draw, as Kent closed on 234 for 5.

Northampton (day four of four)Lancashire 384 & 194, Northamptonshire 258 & 213-9 -match drawn

George Bartlett defied a vintage bowling performance from Lancashire captain James Anderson to secure an unlikely, but hard-earned draw for Northamptonshire with a valiant, rearguard 95 on day four of this County Championship match at Wantage Road.

In a tense final session with a packed infield, Anderson claimed his 400th first-class wicket for the Red Rose as Northamptonshire slumped to 181 for 9 chasing a notional 321 to win.

But Bartlett, who showed great composure in steering his side from a precarious 63 for six at lunch, held his nerve.

With Ben Sanderson keeping him company in a tense, unbroken last-wicket partnership of 32, the pair saw their side to safety at 213 for 9, Lancashire left to rue dropping Sanderson in the slips early in his innings.

Derby (day four of four): Derbyshire 625-8d, Worcestershire 312 & 314-7 - match drawn

Matthew Waite staged another memorable rescue act to save Worcestershire in an absorbing end to the County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire at the County Ground.

Waite faced 141 balls for his unbeaten 66 and, with Ethan Brookes, 34 from 123, dug in for 36 overs to steer the visitors to a fighting draw against an attack which included Pakistani ace Muhammad Abbas and England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.

Derbyshire looked to be on course for victory when they reduced Worcestershire to 185 for 6, but Waite, who batted through the final day at Taunton a year ago, stood firm as his side closed on 314 for 7.

Adam Hose scored 52 while Ben Aitchison, Martin Andersson and Abbas took two wickets apiece, but no one could remove Waite in a gripping finale.
